Hommage à J.-F. Zbinden

Masterclass for 20th-century music

21. – 24. 7. 2025

This year, Julien-François Zbinden's works for solo organ and organ and brass will be performed in partnership with the Société des Concerts de la Cathédrale de Lausanne. It is in fact in this emblematic venue that several of his works were premiered.

This master class, which will be shorter than usual but still intense, will call on established young soloists to prepare a top-class programme for solo organ, brass and organ, under the aegis of Zbinden's three faithful friends and dedicatees: organist Jean-Christophe Geiser and double-bass composer Richard Dubugnon.

The final concert will take place on 24 July as part of the prestigious 750th anniversary celebrations of Lausanne Cathedral.

For the brass section, 5 to 6 musicians (2 to 3 trumpets, 1 horn, 1 to 2 trombones, 1 tuba or euphonium) will meet 2 to 4 organists to play in turn various pieces from the repertoire below. Some of Richard Dubugnon's compositions may also be included. The idea of this masterclass is to be able to play Zbinden not only with musicians who knew him well, but also to work with composers living today.
